Under normal driving conditions only a small percentage of vehicle operation occurs at optimal efficiency.
Vehicle engines and motors are designed to provide high torque levels with efficiency to drivers, but they can become inefficient when operated at lower speeds and torque output levels.
Tula’s DSF and DMD control strategies are designed to have engines and motors operate a greater percentage of time at (or near) their natural sweet spots, and in the process, fuel/energy is saved and emissions are reduced.
How Tula technology creates smarter engines and motors
Before Tula, if your traditionally designed engine had 4 cylinders, then you’d be firing all 4, all the time, whether you needed them or not. Even when less torque was needed, engines would still continue to fire 100%, thereby unnecessarily reducing efficiency, wasting fuel, and increasing CO2 emissions. Until now, drivers accepted these inefficiencies in exchange for maximum available power when needed.
With Tula, drivers no longer need to accept traditional inefficiencies
Now, by variably firing the right percentage of cylinder events or, with electric motors, using a pulse density strategy to operate the motor the right percentage of time, Tula ensures that gas, diesel and electric motors operate at optimal efficiency across the spectrum of requested torque.
Our patented technologies operate engines and motors on a variable basis, scaling up and back again as needed to supply the requested torque, without accepting operating inefficiencies.
Responding to real-time demands: torque when needed and optimal efficiencies under all conditions
For our 4 cylinder engine example, this means operating the engine from the equivalent of 33% of capacity, to 100%, then 17%, then 75% or even 0%. By instantly responding to real-time driver torque demands, Tula’s control strategies save fuel and CO2 emissions without sacrificing torque.
Tula has created control strategies for all propulsion systems – from internal combustion engines and electric motors to a combination of both (e.g. hybrids).
The driver gets powerful torque when needed, and optimal efficiencies under all conditions.
